VILLA ANGELA and URSULINE COLLEGE SUPPORTING EACH OTHER
On April 19th afternoon the kiva at Villa Angela will filled with over one hundred students from Ursuline College Chatham and staff members who joined the Sisters for a time of sharing and mutual support. The students poured out of their buses until every seat and most of the floor space was filled. The young people are the leaders of UCC’s annual Muskoka Woods experience, an activity supported for a number of years by the Ursulines. Over a period of several days, selected students from grades 10 to 12 act as guides and mentors in a leadership training program for the grade seven students from UCC’s feeder schools.
The afternoon program was led by Geri Brown, former UCC teacher and principal and longtime friend of the Ursulines. The opening prayer, introduced by Cindy Waddick included a scripture reading proclaimed by Sr. Bernadette and a short reflection by Sr. Anne Denomy. Students shared the prayers of the faithful and everyone joined in the opening and closing songs accompanied by Jim Dittmer on the keyboard.
One of the most powerful elements of the program was the sharing of the students who had previously been part of the Muskoka Woods experience. Each person talked about an especially meaningful encounter during the time there. Two staff members were also included in the time of sharing.
The final part of the program was exuberantly loud and entertaining as students, staff and sisters joined in music and movement. Before boarding their buses to head back to UCC, the students took time to visit with all of the sisters who participated in the event. What a wonderful exchange of mutual support and enthusiasm!
