“Will you come and follow me if I but call your name?
Will you go where you don’t know and never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown; will you let my name be known?
Will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?”
This opening verse of The Summons by John Bell began the Jubilee celebration on Sunday June 18, 2017. In this gathering we honoured the Jubilarians of 2017:
- Sisters Rita Miller, Julma Dries and Jane Frances Stock – 75 years in religious life;
- Sisters Margaret Pray and Vivienne Caron – 70 years in religious life;
- Sisters May O’Hanlon and Elaine Weisgerber – 65 years in religious life;
- Sister Margot Fish – 60 years in religious life;
- Sisters Sheila McKinley and Marian Krauskopf – 50 years of religious life.
In the early hours of that Sunday morning, Sister Jane Frances passed peacefully from this life to celebrate her jubilee face to face with the God who first loved her into being and called her by name. During the Eucharist her corsage was on the altar as reminder of 75 years of faithful service.
Sister Noreen Allossery-Walsh welcomed the congregation on the glorious feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. The scripture readings were proclaimed by jubilarians, Sister May, Sister Margot and Sister Marian. Sister Marian reflected on the readings and Sister Sheila McKinley led the Prayers of the Faithful.
Sister Theresa Campeau, Community Leader, lead the whole community in the renewal vows. After the celebration which ended with a joyful and spontaneous dance, we enjoyed a festive meal in the dining room with lots of opportunities for visiting and enjoying each other’s company.
As the prayer of renewal announced:
Energized by the Risen Christ and empowered by the abiding presence of Your Spirit, we come together to renew our commitment to you. We do this inspired and strengthened by the courageous women who have gone before us and who walk with us today.
