Sr. Ruth Marie Currie

CURRY, SISTER RUTH MARIE (formerly Sister Mary Patrick) entered Eternal Life on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Villa Angela in Chatham, Ontario.

Born in St. Thomas, Ontario in 1932, the daughter of the late Patrick and Celestine (McManus) Curry. Sister Ruth Marie entered the Ursuline Sisters of Chatham in 1950 and served the Ursuline Community as a teacher, social worker and administrator. Sister ministered in Windsor, Woodslee, Dublin, Menominee Michigan, Ridgetown, London, Toronto and Chatham. She served as the Ursuline Community Archivist from 2000-2011, as well as doing volunteer work at the Chatham-Kent Women’s Centre, Hope Housing and the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society. She is survived by one sister, Patricia Hensien of Grosse Pte. Woods, Michigan; brothers, James and his wife Joan of Essex, Patrick and his wife Jane, Stephen and his wife Luella of Chatham and sister-in-law Cecilia Curry of Eganville and several nieces and nephews. Sister is predeceased by a brother John, sister-in-law Judy and brother-in-law Robert Hensien and sister Margaret Anne Clow of Wallaceburg, (brother-in-law Neil Clow). Relatives and friends are invited to join the Ursuline Community at a prayer service to be held on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the Kiva at Villa Angela, 20 Merici Way, Chatham. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Kiva at Villa Angela, Chatham. Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Donations in memory of Sister Ruth Marie may be made to “Chatham Ursuline Charities”, 20 Merici Way, Chatham, Ontario N7L 3L8 or to the charity of your choice.
