Happy Easter! Alleluia!
“Wherever you are, come. Celebrate this shining happening, this festival of light.”
These words from St. John Chrysostom’s Easter Sermon are addressed to everyone:
“You the first and you the last, equally heaped with blessings.”
What a wonderful world it will be when there is no ‘other’, only ‘us’; when we make room for everyone, welcome everyone, include everyone whether they look, sound, act or think like us. Following our Lenten journey of transformation, Easter is a glorious time to, as the prophet Isaiah instructs, widen our tents. As Easter people we are called to confront systemic injustice, to welcome those who have been pushed to edge and to embrace creation with healing love. Let us be encouraged and energized by St. John’s words:
No one need mourn uncountable falls, be they over and over, For forgiveness itself has reared from the tomb.
No one need fear death, for our Savior himself has set us free.
Come walk in the joy of your God.
Let us be like Mary Magdalene and her companions hurrying from the empty tomb to share the good news that Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!
Sheila
